Medical Breakthrough-A Safe and Drug Free Way to Relieve Pain and Treat Health Conditions
Are we really okay with the drugging of our families and ourselves? Just because it’s called Aleve doesn’t mean that it’s safe. A close friend of mine was found vomiting blood in a restaurant bathroom as a result of taking Aleve (Naproxen Sodium), to relieve pain. These so-called safe over-the-counter pain relievers can have serious consequences on our overall health. Let me give you some examples.
A researcher at the University of Texas Southwestern medical center determined that 56,700 emergency room visits result from acetaminophen overdose in the United States each year. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and other painkillers, Advil, Motrin, Aspirin and Naproxen Sodium can have serious side effects. According to the Annals of Internal Medicine, acetaminophen overdose is the leading cause of acute renal failure in the United States.
Headaches, neck pain, back pain, abdominal pain, are signs that there are underlying causes that need to be addressed and rectified. When this is done the symptoms will disappear forever. Medications of every type can have dangerous side effects. One study I found published in Neurology, showed that near daily use of analgesics is associated with chronic headaches and other chronic pain conditions. Researchers designed the study to determine how many chronic headaches are actually caused by the over use of over-the-counter and prescription drugs. 65,000 participants were included in the study. People who reported more than 15 headaches per month were considered chronic headache sufferers. Researchers further divided the group into migraine sufferers and nine migraine sufferers based on set criteria. Participants were asked about medications they were taking. If participants reported using analgesics almost daily for one month or more within the previous 12 months, it was considered an overuse. Researchers also inquired about the presence of neck pain, low back pain and other musculoskeletal symptoms. Those who reported back or back pain for at least 3 of the previous 12 months or for at least 15 days in the past month were classified as chronic pain sufferers.
Researchers discovered that frequent analgesic used for a prolonged period have a dramatic effect on chronic headaches and chronic pain.
Acupuncture - Ancient Methods Modern Breakthrough
A study completed by Harvard medical school found that two thirds of the participants treated by Acupuncture reported in improvement in their symptoms. Results of the study showed that these patients tolerated the treatment well, with the majority of them describing the Acupuncture treatment as, “pleasant”. Over 75% felt the treatment helped relieve the symptoms.
Acupuncture has long established itself as being highly effective in pain treatments. Billions of people worldwide use Acupuncture. More people use Acupuncture than all other forms of medicine combined. The worst thing that can happen with Acupuncture is that it may not be the answer to your health problem. There are no known deaths or side affects attributed to Acupuncture. On the other hand, hundreds of thousands of deaths are attributed to surgical procedures and the side affects of properly prescribed medications.
Acupuncture Treatments For Children
A division of the National Institutes of Health used Acupuncture on children who suffered from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and found that over half the children experienced an improvement in symptoms. They concluded, “Acupuncture was a useful alternative to standard medication for children with this condition”. (Quoted from the National Institutes of Health website).
As reported on the website, a one year study of Acupuncture treatment of over 243 children shows that the children receive substantial benefits to Acupuncture. At the beginning of treatment, most children reported pain in the low back, hips, extremities, abdomen or head. At the beginning of treatment, their mean visual analog scorer was 8.3 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the worst. The end of the six-week treatment reduced pain scores reduced to an average of 3.3, a drop of five points. Researchers also noted that in addition to reduce pain levels, children reported overall improvement of well-being, increased attendance at school, increased at attention spans at school and improved sleep patterns. Children also stated they were more able to take part in extracurricular activities. No side effects or complications were reported. Some children had a fear of needles in the initial stages of treatment; however, most fears were overcome with communication and positive reinforcement along with Acupuncture’s ability to successfully treat pain quickly.
